Super Sonic approaching Angel Island, from Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, he can still die from drowning, falling into bottomless pits, getting crushed, or receiving a Time Over.Ĭompleting the game with all seven Chaos Emeralds will make Super Sonic appear during the game's ending cutscene. In gameplay, Super Sonic possesses invincibility, increased acceleration, and a heightened Spin Jump for as long as his transformation lasts. Sonic will also de-transform whenever he finishes an Act. After transforming however, the player's Ring count will begin depleting by one for each second Super Sonic is active if the Ring count hits zero, Sonic will turn back to normal. In the 2013 remaster of this game, Sonic instead transforms into Super Sonic once the jump button is tapped again during a jump. Sonic will then automatically transform into Super Sonic in the Zones whenever he jumps while holding at least fifty Rings. In this game, Sonic can unlock Super Sonic after collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds from the Special Stages. On his way down, he met up with his new friend Tails in the Tornado, whom he flew through the sky with. In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, after seemingly destroying the Death Egg, Sonic used the seven Chaos Emeralds he had collected from West Side Island to transform into Super Sonic so he could fly safely down to the planet. Since the Chaos incident, Super Sonic, just like Sonic himself, has become taller, with a thinner torso and red eyes. During the Angel Island incident, his pupils were also lime-colored. His back quills would also be upturned like those on his head, though they would retain their normal position later on. Prior to the Chaos incident, Super Sonic had a round torso and black pupils. This aura sometimes displays either faint sparkles or electrical sparks. He also possesses a golden aura that varies in size and can be anything from smooth to flame-like in shape.

Various changes include his blue fur becoming golden yellow in color, his green pupils turning red, his peach skin gaining a slightly golden hue, and the quills on his head pointing upwards. When transformed into Super Sonic, Sonic's proportions remain unchanged for the most part, and he still wears the same gloves and shoes he normally wears.
